We’ve curated a list of upcoming submission deadlines so that you don’t have to go searching all over for them. You don’t have to go too far to get attention, these film festivals call London their home. Why not submit your work and network with other industry professionals.
SOUL Film Festival
Deadline: January 12th, 2018 | Fee: Free
S.O.U.L. (Screening Our Unseen Lives) works towards empowering ethnically diverse film talent. Occurring 4 times a year, the events are open to all filmmakers of differing levels in the industry. Screen your work at one of the most prestigious film venues in the UK. This is the perfect film festival for emerging British filmmakers. The event will be held on March 16th, you won’t want to miss it.
British Urban Film Festival
Deadline: February 2nd, 2018 | Fee: £50
In absence of support for the Urban Arts, BUFF was started in 2005 to mobilise the budding talent in the independent film and TV sector. The 13th Annual British Urban Film Festival selection will be made March 8th, and the event will take place from June 5th to June 9th.
East End Film Festival
Deadline: February 4, 2018| Fee: £20–50
Attracting an audience of more than 30,000 attendees has established its name as a major film festival in London. EEFF’s mission is to discover, support, and exhibit pioneering work by local and global independent filmmakers. A strong focus is put on introducing viewers to innovative and challenging experiences through film.
London Independent Film Festival
Deadline: February 5, 2018 | Fee: £30–85
LIFF is for the independent filmmaker. They give special attention to the screening of films by first and second-time directors, films shot with budgets under £100,000 and quality films that may not receive distribution through other channels.
Thunderdance Film Festival
Deadline: April 1st, 2018 | Fee: Free
In the heart of East London, the Thunderdance Film Festival offers independent filmmakers from all over the world an opportunity to showcase their work. There are 9 categories for submission offering a wide range of opportunity to be a winning contestant. Winning films will be screened in local cinemas across London. The event is on May 31st.
Open City Documentary Festival
Deadline: April 8th, 2018 | Fee: Free
The Open City Documentary Festival dedicates itself to the development and support of non-fiction storytellers. The organisation works with various next-generation filmmakers, audio producers and VR filmmakers. The festival, in partnership with UCL, will take place in cinemas across London starting September 5th running to September 10th.
Raindance Film Festival
Deadline: April 27, 2018 | Fee: £25–150
The Raindance Film Festival in London showcases films that challenge the boundaries of filmmaking and focuses their programming on mirroring current world cinematic trends. The Raindance Film Festival aims to show the very best in new independent cinema from the UK and around the world, accepting films of all lengths and genres. The 26th Raindance will take place 19 September — 30 September 2018 in central London.
UK Film Festival
Deadline: July 24th, 2018 | Fee: £25–65
UKFF seeks out the undiscovered filmmakers who may have not showcased their films with prestigious public screenings and boasts on accepting films from all over the world. In just 5 years the UK Film Festival has gained the reputation of promoting films that later become Oscar nominees and winners. The festival, in partnership with BFI and Warner Bros, will run from November 20th to November 24th.
Barnes Film Festival
Deadline: September 1st, 2018 | Fee: Free
Barnes Film Festival prides itself on celebrating diversity, passion and creativity, and connecting young filmmakers with industry professionals. Patrons of this film festival include Stanley Tucci and George MacKay. The festival is in select locations September 29th to October 1st.
Underwire Film Festival
Deadline: TBD | Fee: TBD
Underwire is the only UK film festival featuring solely female filmmakers. The festival has screened over 300 films and is sponsored by leading industry organisations like DirectorsUK, BFI Future Film, Euroscript, Greenkit, Sound Disposition, Musician’s Union and WFTV.
Four Seasons Film Festival
Deadline: TBD | Fee: £20–65
Four Seasons Film Festival, a new festival created by partners Holmlands and Green Owl Films, to celebrate independent film, music, art and photography. The festival aims to focus on the moods of annual seasons. Spring will show films about new beginnings, Summer will present films of joy, Autumn films about change, and finally Winter films about real life. The festival will be February 3rd to February 4th.
