We are excited to announce KitMapper is a partner of Deptford X Festival. It’s thrilling to be working with them for the second time during this year’s festival. The partnership is a perfect fit as KitMapper supports the creative community and emerging artists involved in festivals such as Deptford X to access niche kit for their shows and projects, we will be sharing the projects KitMapper collaborated on in our next end of month blog.
This is one festival you don’t want to miss, so we thought to tell you a little more about it. The programme for Deptford X 2017, is the longest-running contemporary art festival in London, running from 22 September to 01 October.
Founded in 1998 as an artist-led project rooted in Deptford’s creative communities, Deptford X has grown to become one of the UK’s leading festivals of contemporary art.
Over the first ten days of autumn, they present a wealth of ambitious art projects within Deptford’s varied public spaces, as well as presenting the work of a wider community of mostly local artists through the Deptford X Fringe.
At the centre of the festival’s curated programme is Platform 2017, in which five emerging artists are commissioned to make substantial new works to be installed in public spaces around Deptford, South East London. This is a focused programme that offers the chosen artists an exciting commission and provides the art world and the public with a showcase of original work which responds to the festival’s unique context. The scope of this year’s work is more interdisciplinary than ever before, bringing together performance, moving image, sculpture and sound installation.
This year’s Platform 2017 artists — Evan Ifekoya, Project O, Sam Austen, Sisters from Another Mister, and Tom Ireland — have been carefully selected from a shortlist of nominations by a panel of art world experts. These are Attilia Fattori Franchini, Haroon Mirza, Heather Phillipson, Legacy Russell, and Richard Parry.
The Deptford X Fringe is an open programme strand for independent projects, facilitated and supported — but not curated — by Deptford X. It runs in parallel with the curated programme and is a celebration of the long-standing creative community-based in Deptford.
To commemorate our second collaboration we are offering Deptford X Fringe participants 10% off on rentals through KitMapper, if you have any questions in regards to kit recommendation or technical questions do not hesitate to get in touch.
